What is Xtension Galaxy?

Xtension Galaxy is a marketplace for Magento extensions. Our goal is to be the premier marketplace to find, test and purchase Magento extensions. Xtension Galaxy was created with all of the requests and requirements of the Magento community in mind.

What are the benefits of using Xtension Galaxy?

Xtension Galaxy is a marketplace built on trust, quality and ease-of-use. The Marketplace will be closely monitored to ensure that it’s core principles are upheld. Users will find what they need and trust that the vendors uphold the Xtension Galaxy quality and integrity standards. Xtension Galaxy is the only marketplace with a try and buy option. By testing extensions in an Xtension Galaxy sandbox you’ll uncover any compatibility issues and can work directly with the vendor to resolve these issues, all prior to purchase. Additionally, we have made purchasing very simple. You can do everything from Xtension Galaxy (we take care of paying the vendor). And we provide an option for a single, downloadable file for a group of extensions purchased at the same time.

Our goal is to make the process for finding and implementing extensions easier, to lower costs and stress levels, and to provide you with a trusted go-to source for Magento information and tools.

What do you mean by “trusted” source?

One of our primary goals for Xtension Galaxy is to create a marketplace that merchants, site developers, and listing members can trust. As such, we monitor the extensions and content to uncover anything that is considered misleading or code that is in violation of copyright laws. After careful review, Xtension Galaxy will alert the violators and anyone that is the victim of infringement, and reserves the right to edit or remove content that is misleading or to remove extensions that violate copyright laws.

While such violations are not rare in the software business, they happen more than we would like. It is our goal to eliminate violators from the Xtension Galaxy community so that you can feel confident in the products you buy and the vendors you are dealing with.

The Extension Purchase Process

One of the benefits that Xtension Galaxy provides is managing all purchase transactions. You can purchase any number of extensions in one transaction. You pay Xtension Galaxy and we take responsibility for paying each vendor. You can decide if you want all extensions optionally downloaded as a single installer file, regardless of how many different extensions and vendors are involved, or have all extensions delivered individually.

Setting Sales Prices for Extensions

Product pricing is the sole responsibility of the listing member. If you have questions about product pricing or licensing agreements, please contact the listing member/vendor.

Product Reviews

The principles of trust and integrity apply to product reviews. While we hope our user community will act as good citizens and only submit reviews based on an honest representation of their experience with a product, we know that some may violate this privilege. If a listing member feels they have received a baseless review, they can bring this to our attention and we will investigate. If the review is determined to be unfounded we will contact the originator and reserve the right to remove it. We hope that anyone submitting a review has installed and used the product and provides a thoughtful and honest analysis.

Returns

The features of Xtension Galaxy are designed to help ensure that merchants and developers make qualified and judicious purchase decisions. The Xtension Galaxy sandboxes give users the ability to test as many extensions as they want to ensure basic interoperability.While Xtension Galaxy does not offer a return or refund policy, we will abide by any vendor specific return / refund policies. We will notify the vendor of any refund requests and upon approval will promptly issue a refund to the customer.

Support

How will support be handled?

Product support is primarily the responsibility of the listing member/vendor. Users are encouraged to create a personal Magento demo store (CE or EE) to test any extensions they want. If there are any questions about an extension, the user can provide the vendor access to their sandbox/demo store so that the two parties can work directly together on the issue.

Managing conflicts with products not sold through Xtension Galaxy

Allowing customers to create a clean demo store and install and test extensions gives you a baseline of how extensions should work. This will help with support requests when extensions are added to your production environment and problems arise. Conflicts can come from other extensions and custom code, so there is no way to identify and solve all potential conflicts in the Xtension Galaxy sandbox. Xtension Galaxy does not warrant any extension and does not extend guarantees beyond the sandbox environment on the Marketplace.

How are extensions chosen to be listed on Xtension Galaxy

Aside from excluding those who have clearly violated IP or copyright laws, we want Xtension Galaxy to be the resource for merchants to find the solutions they need. This is a free market environment based on a true meritocracy in which the best solutions are naturally those that will benefit from their quality and popularity. The marketplace will employ an automated quality scoring system along with expert analysis, extension reviews and perhaps peer reviews, or input from an advisory board in the future.

We are pleased to be a marketplace where innovators in the Magento community can list their extension and build awareness. There is currently no other viable option for newcomers to the Magento space. Our goal is to have a nice balance of proven leaders and new innovators.

Xtension Galaxy always reserves the right to alert consumers to those vendors with proven quality issues, those that do not pass our internal code review and quality assessment.

How are products licensed?

When you purchase a product, any applicable license is with the vendor, not Xtension Galaxy. The vendor will be informed about all customer details for each order. In keeping with Magento policy, we will allow customers to add code to one Magento admin instance.

Will software updates be handled through Xtension Galaxy?

Initially our plan is to let customers download 90 days of updates (in keeping with common industry practice). It is far too complex for us to support different update / support policies for each individual developer.You can always work directly with the vendor for updates after making the initial purchase on/through Xtension Galaxy.

What are the benefits of listing extensions on Xtension Galaxy?

Listing members will benefit by listing their products on a marketplace that actively supports trust, quality and ease-of-use. The Marketplace will be closely monitored to ensure that it’s core principles are upheld. We will promote the Marketplace to drive traffic to the site but feel that the real momentum will come from word-of-mouth as developers and merchants find how useful and supportive Xtension Galaxy is.

Xtension Galaxy Traffic Expectations

We will have active marketing and social media campaigns to drive traffic to the Marketplace. We also hope that our listing members promote the Marketplace. And we expect that once people start using the Marketplace, word-of-mouth will drive a lot of traffic. Our goal is to make this a significant revenue source for you.

Although we aren’t able to forecast the traffic volume Xtension Galaxy will experience, we are confident that we are set up to handle any level of user access. We have partnered with ZeroLag, a Platinum Magento partner, to provide hosting. They will provide 5 servers to begin with. Our system is highly scalable, so even if we hit unexpected traffic volumes, Zerolag can quickly add hardware to handle any increased load.

How do I become a listing member and add my extensions?

We will provide an interface where you can easily add your extensions to the marketplace along with any content, images, videos and demos to market your extension.

One of our primary goals for Xtension Galaxy is to create a marketplace that merchants, site developers, and listing members can trust. As such, we will bring to your attention content that is considered misleading or code that is in violation of copyright laws. After careful review, Xtension Galaxy reserves the right to edit or remove content that is misleading or to remove extensions that violate copyright laws.

The Extension Purchase Process

The user pays Xtension Galaxy and we take responsibility for paying each vendor. The user can decide if they want all extensions optionally downloaded as a single installer file, regardless of how many different extensions and vendors are involved, or to have them all delivered individually.

Cost of Listing/Selling Extensions

Xtension Galaxy does not charge a set up fee. We make money based on sales of your products. For paid extensions our standard policy is a 25% commission. When the extension is sold, we will pay you 75% of the total sales price. For SaaS extensions, please contact us for details. If you offer a free extension, not as entry to a SaaS service or other product, we will list the extension free of charge. We hope all listing members, regardless of their extension type, will promote the Marketplace.

Setting Sales Prices for Extensions

There are no requirements or restrictions pertaining to product pricing. Listing members are responsible for the prices charged for their products.

Product Reviews

If you feel you have received a baseless review we will investigate. If the review is determined to be unfounded we will remove it and take action with the originator so that this does not become a pattern of behavior.

The features of Xtension Galaxy are designed to help ensure that merchants and developers make qualified and judicious purchase decisions. The Xtension Galaxy sandboxes give users the ability to test as many extensions as they want to ensure basic interoperability. Because of this, we do not offer a return or refund policy. If you have a different return policy, we are happy to abide by it for your customers. We will notify you of any refund requests and upon your approval will promptly issue a refund to the customer. Any commissions paid to you for the return will be deducted from commissions due on future sales.

Support

How will support be handled?

Product support is primarily the responsibility of the individual developer (listing member). Customers will be able to create their own personal Magento demo store (CE or EE) and test any extensions they want. If they have any questions about an extension, the user can provide you access to their sandbox/demo store so that you can work directly with them on the issue. By enabling users to test everything in a clean demo environment, you have a good reference point regarding how your product performed in a clean environment should they request support with their production environment.

We have plans to ultimately offer optional, marketplace provided support for hand picked collections of extensions. We may for example select a few extensions and a theme that we feel will work well for a specific vertical market. We will test this bundle to ensure all extensions work well together. To show that we believe in the bundle, we will optionally offer to support it for an additional fee.

We want to encourage listing members to suggest opportunities for bundles, suggest the components and even ask to be considered to support the bundle.

Extension Mix on Xtension Galaxy

Are there any restrictions to becoming a listing member or to the number of extensions in a given category / solution type?

Aside from excluding those who have clearly violated IP or copyright laws, we want Xtension Galaxy to be the resource for merchants to find the solutions they need. This is a free market environment based on a true meritocracy in which the best solutions are naturally those that get in front of customers the most. The marketplace will employ an automated quality scoring system along with expert analysis, extension reviews and perhaps peer reviews, or input from an advisory board in the future. We are open to ideas on how to implement a fair system for featuring extensions (other than pay-to-play).

We are pleased to be a marketplace where innovators in the Magento community can list their extension and build awareness as well. There is currently no other viable option for newcomers. Our goal is to have a nice balance of proven leaders and new innovators.

Xtension Galaxy always reserves the right to alert consumers to those vendors with proven quality issues, those that do not pass our internal code review and quality assessment.

Logistics

How are extension copies licensed, and can we receive a list of who the extension was sold to (URL/email address)?

You will receive customer details for each order. We have been working with several developers to add a license algorithm to the Marketplace so that we can have licenses generated by the Marketplace. To keep things simple for phase 1 of Xtension Galaxy, we will have a single Magento install license. In keeping with the licensing policy of most developers we will allow customers to add code to one Magento admin instance by default. Listing members will also be able to add language to their product pages that outline their specific licensing policies. Of course with the nature of selling any code, there may be some fraudulent activity but we will collect enough information so that you will be able to spot issues before wasting support time.

How will updates be handled with Xtension Galaxy?

At this point it is far too complex for us to enable the different update / support policies of each individual developer. Clients can always work directly with you for updates after making their initial purchase on/through Xtension Galaxy.

Marketing Extensions

What can I post to help people understand my extension?

You can post literally any kind of educational material including the copy in your listing, adding attachments like white papers and user docs, links, images, and videos. We encourage you to make your listing as informative as possible.

Can I run a promotion on Xtension Galaxy?

We not only allow, but encourage, listing members to run promotions and specials on Xtension Galaxy. This is a great way to garner attention for your product and company. We will honor special pricing in the purchase process, and at least for the first six months of Xtension Galaxy, will reduce our commission to 25% of the reduced/sale price. We reserve the right to change this policy after September 30, 2105.

Xtension Galaxy would also like to run global promotions to encourage the community to visit the Marketplace. If products are sold as a result of such a promotion Xtension Galaxy will reduce its commission in support of the promotion. As such promotions may offer your product at a price lower than what you are selling it, we will respect any request to have a product excluded from a global promotion.
